Teaching the robots: Coaches in Trossingen make a playful desire for technology professions

Finding the right job is often difficult for young people. The educational program Coaching4future therefore visits the Trossingen high school on Monday and Tuesday, July 8th and July 9th. Two coaches give the pupils insight into important social future issues and thus linked job profiles to inform about training and study routes in the so-called MINT disciplines of mathematics, computer science, science and technology. In your luggage you have an entertaining hands-on lecture, experimental workshops on topics such as robotics or environmental protection and a lot of technology to try out. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the Südwestmetall employers' association and the Baden-Württemberg Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency for the specialists of tomorrow are involved with Coaching4future.

The shortage of skilled workers in technical and scientific professions is particularly noticeable in Baden-Württemberg. In order to counter this challenge, it is important to show young people even before they graduated from school. The educational program Coaching4future has been traveling in secondary schools in Baden-Württemberg since 2008 and supports the pupils in professional orientation.

At the Trossingen grammar school, the pupils of the ninth grades have the opportunity to see the coaches with an interactive lecture with videos and hands-on experiments technical exhibits to touch and try out. The two tech coaches Stefanie Godel and Carmen Stegmann present new technologies and materials and explain what MINT professions do and how young people can work in the solution of important social challenges. The selection of the subject areas is hit by the school classes themselves and ranges from machines and robots to living and mobility of the future to medicine, lifestyle and environmental protection.

A special highlight of the program is the workshop on information technology, in which young people learn to teach robots. Without a programming language, the basic principles of robotics are conveyed and the students build different robots with the help of special modules.

In order to offer the young people further information and support with their professional orientation, the online portal www.coaching4future.de is available. There, interested parties can use the career gate to find out which STEM courses and apprenticeships fit best with their personal strengths and inclinations. In addition, companies present their training and dual courses in the MINT area.

The visit of Coaching4future in Trossingen offers interesting opportunities for editorial reports. Journalists are asked to register at the press contact at least two days in advance. The image rights should be observed in the case of recordings of pupils.
