New York's governor has asked to refuse approval for crypto mining facilities

In the letter, the governor is asked to refuse the title V Air permit to the two former facilities for fossil fuels that are supposed to accommodate crypto mining operations

A letter signed by a series of economic and work organizations was sent to the governor of the state of New York, Kathy Hochul, with the request to refuse To convert old power plants of the city for fossil fuels into crypto mining farms.

The application comes days after the authorities have considered the possibility of converting the Greenidge General Station and the fortar North Tonawanda power plants into crypto mining systems.

The increasing environmental concerns in connection with crypto mining have forced the supervisory authorities to rethink their support for mining projects in the middle of China's active raids in order to reduce and prevent miners' work in the country.

The groups that have turned to the governor have asked the authorities to examine the environmental impact of the proof-of-work mining of cryptocurrencies by pointing out that crypto mining operations would seriously endanger the engagement of the city to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

In the letter, the inefficiency of the Pow authentication was emphasized and explained that "Proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining consumes enormous amounts of energy to supply the computers with electricity that is necessary for business processing."

"If this activity is expanded in New York, this could drastically undermine the climate and community protection act in New York as part of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection. " added it.

The letter also pointed out how the New York Commissioner Basil Seggos from the Department of Environmental Conservation explained Last month, the former Greenidge coal-fired power plant, which became Bitcoin mine, had "not shown compliance with the New York climate law".

It demanded that all measures to manage Hochul should be based on a complete environmental assessment of the effects of converting the two systems for fossil fuels into cryptocurrency mining operations, and demanded that the two systems are denied a flight permit according to title V.

The New York Digital Investment Group (nydig) has Bitcoin mining in 2020 up to 0.04 % of global primary energy consumption.
