The Near Foundation selects Kenya as a regional center with blockchain focus

  • The regional hub will concentrate on blockchain innovation, talent development and community education in Africa
  • Marieke Flament, CEO of the Near Foundation, said that the collaboration offers an opportunity to work with local talents

Near Foundation has announced the introduction of a regional hub in partnership with the Kenyian blockchain community. The Swiss non-profit organization is responsible for the administration of the development and governance of the Near protocol, a smart-contract-capable blockchain that was introduced in 2020.

The hub would be supported by a core team of four people and led by Sankore founder Kevin Imani. It would support blockchain innovations, clarify the communities and promote talent development on the larger continent of Africa. The hub will also include the Sankore Bounty ecosystem, have an incubation program and an academy and also hold events.

All of this serves to provide a platform for the best blockchain developers of Africa.

"We are very happy to work with Near to train and promote talented people so that they become a world-class blockchain developer. [...] The Near Protocol enables the smartest developers of tomorrow, to develop user-defined solutions with scalability, security and transparency, and this hub is the next step to make our common vision reality", Imani.

Kenya and Africa in general are full of potential

The newly established program will strengthen the position of blockchain technology in Kenya. Current market data confirm that the East African country is already a leader in the introduction of this technology.

Blockchain and data analysis platform Chainalysis Last September that kenia in the global crypto adoption Index 2021 took fifth place. Kenya is a leader in the crypto transaction volume, whereby peer-to-peer trading platforms recorded the highest adjusted commercial volumes.

CEO Near Foundation, Marieke Flament, noticed this potential and predicted that entry in Africa could play an important role in the development of the blockchain space. Flament also noted that the partnership offers an opportunity to work with local talents.

The plan is to even expand beyond Kenya's capital Nairobi in regions with little blockchain exposure in the country.

" We are enthusiastic about the potential ways in all of Africa for blockchain solutions that result from innovations in development, education and talent. This hub represents a unique opportunity to work with local talents, not only for the possibilities that we know today, but also for the possibilities that are still created in the future." Foundation.

The efforts should bear fruit, as Sankore Near-Meets indicated.
