NFT marketplace OpenSea freezes transactions of the stolen Bored Ape NFTS worth $ 2.2 million
- It is currently not clear how the hackers have succeeded in taking advantage of the vulnerability, but Openea frozen the trade for the 15 stolen NFTs.
- The security gaps from OpenSea have forced the community to question the security and decentralization of the platform.
In another unfortunate event, Hackern managed to steal 15 of the popular Bored Ape NFTS from the Ethereum-based NFT marketplace OpenSea. According to Todd Kramer, the owner of the NFTS, the hacker stole a total of 15 monkeys and mutants.
In order to clarify the context, the total value of all of these NFTs was an incredible $ 2.2 million. These NFTs on the Openea marketplace now have a warning that states that they are "reported for suspicious activities". In addition, the OpenSea marketplace has stopped buying and selling these NFTs. Owner Todd Kramer listed all the NFTs that were susceptible to this attack. He also called this incident "probably the worst night" of his life.

bored ape nfts triggered a storm and at the same time contributed millions of NFT trade volume. They were also the most popular NFTs on the OpenSea NFT marketplace. However, it is the first time that Hacker NFTS stolen from a large collection and expressed serious concerns about security.
With the freezing of the transactions by OpenSea, however, the community also questioned the decentralization of these NFTs. One of the anonymous users also called this step "anti-crypto". A Twitter account with the name forculus writes :
Who could freeze the NFTs? Feel quite anti-crypto to ask third parties, and ideally you shouldn't be able to do this. That was just an extremely bad Opsec on your side. Nobody should be able to intervene real decentralized ownership. Good luck.
OpenSea prohibits the Phuky Ape Yacht Club
While Openea has to struggle with its own security problems, it has also come into a dispute over the approval of the Phunky Ape Yacht Club (PAYC) on its platform. The NFT platform has also banned this NFT series because it is based on the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BayC).
PAYC is very similar with the Bored Ape NFTS, with the only change that it is mirrored. Copying these NFTs has also led to a discussion in the community about the plagiarism of non -fungible tokens. However, the ban on something raises the question of a really decentralized marketplace. In the meantime, Payc has also built up a strong follower community. So it will be interesting to see how far this goes.
As early as October 2021, we reported that OpenSea has some basic security gaps that make his wallets susceptible to hacker attacks. The Check Point Software researchers stated that the weak point enabled hackers to steal the entire crypto wallet of the users.
