2024-03-25: planning approval decision for the construction of the network booster in Kupferzell

On March 20, 2024, the Stuttgart regional council approved the planning approval decision for the construction and operation of the network booster in Kupferzell. This decision marks the end of the approval process and the start of the construction of the battery storage. The network booster is an important project for the energy transition and enables the existing power grid to use more efficiently and to feed more green electricity. Furthermore, the costs for network expansion can be significantly reduced to ensure that the energy transition remains affordable.

The decision of the regional council is based on comprehensive public participation and a discussion date in November last year. After careful weighing of all relevant arguments, the approval for the construction and operation of the network booster was granted.

The regional council had already approved the construction of the construction site and initial terrain adjustments at the end of August, so that nothing stands in the way of the official start of construction on June 10, 2024. TransnetBW, the initiator of the project, works closely with the general contractor Fluence Energy and plans to deliver the individual components this year.

The network booster, also known as battery storage, acts as a safety buffer in the event of an error. In addition, it enables a higher load of the existing power grid without active energy feed -in and still ensures reliable security of supply. This reduces the need for additional cables and interventions in network operation, which has a cost -reducing effect.

The construction of the network booster in Kupferzell also brings local effects. In addition to the positive effects for the energy transition and the energy supply in the region, new jobs are also created. In particular during the construction phase, many workers are expected to be needed. This can lead to a revival of the local economy and improve access to work in the region.

In addition, Kupferzell has a historical importance for the Stuttgart region. The city can look back on a long history and has some historical sights to offer, including the Kupferzell Castle, which was built in the 16th century. This could offer additional incentive for investors and tourists to visit the area and boost the local economy.

In the following you will find a table with further information about the network booster project:

Overall, the construction and operation of the network booster in Kupferzell will make a significant contribution to the energy transition in the Stuttgart region. The use of battery storage technology enables more efficient use of the existing power grid and lowers the costs for network expansion. The project also offers potential for creating new jobs and can help to boost the local economy. With the planning approval decision, nothing stands in the way of the start of construction in June 2024, and the implementation of the network booster is getting closer.
