Commissioning of the Kork: milestone of the network reinforcement in Baden-Württemberg
In a solemn ceremony, the new Kork substation was officially put into operation in Kehl. The project, which took around two and a half years of construction, represents an important step in the network reinforcement of the Baden Rhine rail and was realized by the transmission system operator TransnetBW. Dr. Werner Götz, the managing director of TransnetBW, emphasized the essential role of the new substation in order to meet the increased requirements of the industry and the population in the Ortenaukreis.
The Kork substation includes a 380 kV free air switch system as well as necessary operating and additional buildings. In the future, a connection to a 110 kV conversions under construction will establish and is part of the major project for network reinforcement, which affects the region from Karlsruhe-Daxlanden to Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl. The construction of the outdoor switching system enables optimized power distribution and is specially designed for the challenges of the energy transition.
The increase in the voltage level from 220 kV to 380 kV is not only important for the direct environment, but also has far-reaching consequences for the power supply across Baden-Württemberg and beyond the national borders. The restructuring of the network infrastructure is designed to avoid network overloads in times of strong consumption or irregular generation of renewable energy.
The city of Kehl as the location of the substation also benefits from this measure, which not only secure regional energy supply, but also could attract potential investments in industry.
substation are still crucial nodes of the energy supply, which enable both an increase and a reduction in voltage in the electrical networks. This is particularly important in order to meet the steadily increasing demands and the growing proportion of renewable energies.
