Study on the power plant strategy: Transnetbw's new building advance relieves the federal budget by one billion euros

Study on the power plant strategy shows: "New Building Advance" by TransnetBW relieves Bundes budget by one billion euros

latest calculations by the consulting company Enervis on behalf of TransnetBW, a transmission system operator, show that the new building advance concept developed by TransnetBW significantly reduces the cover gap in the event of investments in hydrogen-compatible gas power plants at system-useful locations. Dr. Werner Götz, CEO of TransnetBW, emphasizes the importance of the Federal Government's power plant strategy in order to make the best contribution to the security of supply and the safe operation of the power grid. The new study shows a savings potential of federal funds of up to one billion euros. MdB Markus Hümpf from the SPD supports the new building advance concept and relies on the fact that the Federal Ministry of Economics will soon check and take this proposal into account.

The study says that the new building advance of TransnetBW, in combination with the power plant strategy, creates efficient incentives for the addition of power plants at the locations where the system needs are highest. This is done by guaranteed annual remuneration for the network of power of the power plants. This measure makes it possible to plan network stabilization operations of market power plants and investors can achieve better conditions on the capital market. Especially in the south and west of Germany, where network stabilization operations make up a significant part of the power plant company, the bidders benefit from this concept.

The new building advance concept of TransnetBW creates investment incentives for climate-friendly and controllable systems, such as hydrogen-capable gas power plants, in locations where they help to cover electricity demand and to avoid network bottlenecks. So far, such investment incentives have been missing, since these power plants are only used for demand to be covered after renewable energies. The concept of the new building advance is compatible with a capacity market and represents systemic investment incentives.

Table: Possible effects of the new building advance concept of TransnetBW on the regional power plant strategy

Region Effects of the concept
south and west of Germany increase in the addition of climate -friendly, controllable systems in locations with high system benefits
Remaining Germany Influence of the concept on other regions requires further examinations
Bundes budget savings potential of up to one billion euros
energy supply security Higher security of supply due to predictable network stabilization operations
capital market better conditions for investors
