Stuttgart has the lowest heating consumption in the heating season 2023/24-ISTA Heiz-O-Meter
As a regional editor from Stuttgart, I would like to present a press release that discusses the result of an extensive heating o-meter. According to the message, Stuttgart is the only city in Germany that used less heating energy in the 2023/24 heating season than in the previous year. In contrast, more heated in all others of the 20 largest German cities. The ISTA Heiz-O-Meter, an instrument for recording heating energy consumption, has thus provided interesting knowledge of consumption in different regions of the country.
Stuttgart was able to reduce its heating energy consumption by about 1 percent. In second and third place in the ranking are Dresden and Munich with additional consumption of one or two percent compared to the previous year. Bielefeld is the bottom of Bielefeld with a weather -adjusted additional consumption of twelve percent.
The west of Germany is generally less economical when heating. The last six places of the city ranking for the entire heating season were occupied by North Rhine-Westphalian cities. The most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia only reaches tenth place in the federal state comparison, while Saxony, Bavaria and Thuringia take the front ranks. Baden-Württemberg, which belongs to Stuttgart, reaches fifth place. The federal states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony are at the end of the table.
The real estate service provider ISTA had advertised the ISTA heating ranking at the beginning of the heating season and recognized Stuttgart as the most economical city. At an event in Berlin, the Office for Environmental Protection in Stuttgart received the ISTA Heiz-O-Meter Cup and a certificate. The city also received prize money of 15,000 euros, which is to be used to record and improve the energy efficiency of public buildings.
The results of the heating-o-meter should create awareness and transparency when it comes to heating. Only those who know their current consumption can consciously control their behavior and save energy. In Stuttgart, this idea is already implemented intensively, which heated the households there even more consciously than in winter. The managing director of ISTA, Hagen Lessing, emphasized the importance of current and reliable data for the implementation of climate protection plans.
Andreas Neft, head of the Stuttgart Office for Environmental Protection, appealed to the municipalities to advance the renovation of their own building stock in order to be able to successfully implement the heat transition. He emphasized that the state capital Stuttgart would take a pioneering role here and will consistently renovate its own buildings by 2030 with the aim of climate neutrality.
The ISTA Heiz-O-Meter is a digital application that continues to evaluate current monthly data of around 350,000 households, determines the actual heating energy consumption of the previous month throughout Germany, the federal states and the 20 largest cities and thus creates transparency through heating energy consumption during the ongoing heating season.
The following table shows the results of the ISTA Heiz-O-Meter for the 20 largest German cities:
