University of Hohenheim nominates for German sustainability prize - pioneer of the transformation in Stuttgart
The University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart was nominated for the German Sustainability Award. The university belongs to the 11 nominees in the "Schools and University" category and was nominated due to its numerous publications and activities in the field of sustainability without having submitted an active application. The German Sustainability Award has recognized a variety of sustainable activities in the areas of ecology, economy and social affairs every year since 2008. The University of Hohenheim has firmly anchored the topic of sustainability in its university culture and relies on various measures in the areas of study and teaching, operating & infrastructure, research & innovation, governance & structure and structure. In addition to ecological aspects, the university also focuses on the social and economic dimension of sustainability.
A large part of the research projects at the university has a reference to sustainability. For example, the topic plays an important role in the overall university leading theme "Bioeconomy". New courses such as "Sustainability and Change" have been set up and professorships have been reoriented, such as "sustainable development and change", "sustainable action and business" or "sustainable use of natural resources". The University of Hohenheim has set up a Green Office that brings together actors and ideas on the subject of sustainability and makes sustainability issues visible on campus. In addition, greenhouse gas balance was carried out to analyze the university's CO2 footprint and reduce climate-effective emissions. The University of Hohenheim was also recognized as the "most rich campus of Europe" and makes a contribution to species and species protection with the "Competence Center Bioeconomy and Integrative Taxonomy"
The University of Hohenheim promotes entrepreneurial activities of students and researchers on campus through institutions such as the "Innovation Greenhouse". Numerous startups from university members and alumni specialize in sustainable business ideas. Student groups are also committed to sustainability with great commitment and contribute to a lively sustainability culture on campus.
The award ceremony of the German Sustainability Award will take place on November 28, 2024 in Düsseldorf.
