Grötzinger remains the mayor: clear election decision in Owen!

The mayoral election in Owen, a small but lively place in the Esslingen district, ensured clear conditions last Sunday. The reigning mayor Verena Grötzinger (free voters) has prevailed against her challenger Oliver Knur with 58.3 percent of the vote. Knur, who went into the race as a non -party candidate, received 41.4 percent of the vote. Due to a number of voters of 2643, 64.5 percent took part in the vote.

The result of this choice not only underlines the trust of the Owen citizens in Grötzinger, but also shows how much the voters have dealt with their decision this year. During her first election eight years ago, Grötzinger started without a serious competition and achieved almost 98 percent approval. This time she had to face a real election campaign.

The challenger and the challenges

Oliver Knur, who heads the Bundesbank branch in Ulm and has knowledge of local politics as a long-standing CDU member, appeared as a serious competitor. Despite his experience and an elaborate election campaign, he was unable to convince the voters of Grötzinger and to convince the positive development of the city. However, the support for Knur was noticeable and his competition spirit lively designed the election in Owen.

Grötzinger took the opportunity to point out their previous successes in the election campaign. Under its leadership, the city has invested 28 million euros in the infrastructure and public institutions in the past 16 years and at the same time reduced debts. These sober numbers speak for themselves and seem to have found great complicity among the voters.

The connection to Owen should have played another crucial role. This is not just a job for you, but a real heart. The native of Kirchheim, who grew up in Weilheim, spent a lot of time to build a relationship with the community and the citizens. Her comprehensive training as a graduate administrator has prepared her well for the challenges of the administration that she has successfully headed since 2008.

In this new term of office, it remains to be seen which further projects and initiatives of Grötzinger will tackle. Despite the growing challenges in front of which all communities are standing, the course of continuing and further development the city of Owen remains unbroken. The continuing support of the citizens means both a mandate and an obligation to continue the path taken.
