New Integration Advisory Board in Friedrichshafen: First meeting ensures departure!

The newly elected integration advisory board met for its first constituent meeting in the Technical City Hall in Friedrichshafen. Mayor Andreas Hein hired the new members of the Integration Advisory Board, which consist of eight knowledgeable residents with a migration background and six professional organizations of integration work. In addition, the advisory board includes a representative for the managing school management and the administration, one seat for the parliamentary groups of the local council and two seats for the youth parliament.

The Integration Advisory Board has the task of representing the concerns of the residents with migration history. It brings their interests, needs and experiences into municipal decisions. He also serves as a strategic body and advises the local council on integration policy issues. Central tasks include the monitoring of the integration plan developed in 2022, networking with other integration policy bodies and the central role in the implementation of the "partnership for democracy". Also the decision on the strategic orientation and projects as part of the "Democracy!" falls into the area of responsibility of the advisory board.

Integration in Friedrichshafen

The integration plan of the Bodenseekreis, which was developed with the participation of city representatives, forms the basis of integration policy in Friedrichshafen. This plan is based on the integration policy principles of 2015 and is also based on the position and impulse paper of the Baden-Württemberg City Day in 2019. Integration is understood here as a task that is based on the Basic Law and the recognition of common democratic norms. Friedrichshafen maintains an open welcome culture and rejects discrimination.

The goal of the integration plan is to recognize and design diversity as an enrichment. Important aspects of integration work include equal participation in education, sport, culture, profession, living space, social services and health care. Language skills in German and origin languages are viewed as key resources for successful integration. The integration plan is aimed not only at people with a history of migration, but also at the entire city society. However, certain goals and measures are specifically geared towards immigrants and refugees to promote their participation.

In addition, cross -sectional topics such as the promotion of women and girls, the inclusion of people with disabilities, ensuring participation as well as ecological and social sustainability are of central importance. The integration process requires a network of actors and the active participation of the immigrants. In order to document the progress of the measures, an annual progress report is planned in which the Integration Advisory Board is integrated.
