Klinikum Stuttgart accepts patients from destroyed children's hospital in Kyiv
The Stuttgart Clinic took up two young patients from the destroyed children's hospital in Kiev on July 18, 2024. The two toddlers aged 4 and 10 months are medically stabilized and further cared for in the Olgahospital of the clinic. The OKMATDYT children's hospital in Kiev, one of the largest children's hospitals in Ukraine, was severely destroyed on July 8, 2024 by a rocket attack. The Stuttgart Clinic has offered support in the care of patients from the destroyed children's hospital in the past few days. At least other patients are expected.
The Stuttgart Clinic is known for its large children's hospital, the Olgahospital. It has one of the largest neonatological intensive care units and highly specialized pediatric surgery. The hospital is optimally equipped to supply seriously ill children. Already at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, several children with cancer from the country were looked after by the children's cancer station of the Stuttgart Clinic.
The Stuttgart Clinic includes the Katharinenhospital, the Bad Cannstatt Hospital and the Olgahospital, the largest children's hospital in Germany. It employs over 9,000 people, including more than 3,000 nurses and over 1,000 doctors. Every year, around 90,000 patients are treated inpatient and over 600,000 outpatient, including 100,000 emergencies. The Stuttgart Clinic looks after over 3,000 births and more than 50,000 operations every year. The Katharinenhospital is currently being rebuilt for over 800 million euros to create the latest infrastructures for patient care.
The admission of the patients from the destroyed children's hospital in Kiev shows the solidarity of the Stuttgart Clinic with the innocent victims of the war in Ukraine. The hospital's medical staff is highly motivated and helpful to help the little patient.
