Together strong: Bruchsal and the surrounding area master the flood disaster

A strong storm recently hit the Bruchsal region and left considerable damage.

The effects of the storm on the communities

Some areas, especially the districts of Heidelsheim and Helmsheim, have to deal with the aftermath of the flood, which has arisen from heavy rain. Many basement rooms are flooded in Bruchsal and the surrounding area, and numerous households had to do without electricity.

The role of the Bundeswehr in the cleanup

In the efforts to remedy the damage, the city receives support from 73 soldiers of the Bundeswehr, who move with trucks to remove mud and bulky waste. This is the result of an official request from the city to the Bundeswehr.

Thanks to the quick use of volunteers, many cellars could already be cleared on Saturday. The city of Bruchsal informs about the processing of the cleanup on its website to keep the population up to date.

The challenges of recovery

In Bruchsal, all roads are now connected to the power grid again, but not all houses are supplied with electricity, since some electrical systems have been damaged and repaired by the flood. It remains important that the sewage system is not blocked again by mud, especially in the event of further rain.

The emotions of those affected and solidarity in the community

The mayor of Gondelsheim, Markus Rupp, expresses the exhaustion of the municipal managers, but also describes the tireless willingness to help: "The cohesion is very great." Many households have had their basement pumped out, and about 100 construction dryers have been distributed to those affected to minimize the damage. He explains that the work has not yet been completed and it will take some time to put everything back into normal state.

The situation in neighboring cities

In comparison, the cleanup in Bretten has already been completed. According to Marcel Winter from the press office, the city got away with a "blue eye", which indicates that the damage there was not as serious as in Bruchsal and the surrounding districts.

While the storm has led to physical damage, the reaction of the community shows a strong cohesion. Many volunteers strive to support their neighbors and to put the affected areas back into a habitable state as soon as possible. It is to be hoped that with the ongoing help of volunteers and institutions such as the Bundeswehr, the affected communities can be recreated step by step.
