Christmas Eve chaos: 100 travelers in Mannheim evacuated due to overhead line damage!
Christmas Eve ended unexpectedly for around 100 travelers on the railway line between Mannheim and Karlsruhe. Oberleitungs damage between Schwetzingen and Oftersheim forced passengers to leave their S-Bahn. According to the federal police, the trains could not continue due to the damage, and traffic in this section was immediately discontinued. The repair work is already underway, and no external debt can be determined, such as SWR reported.
evacuation and diversion
Those affected were safely evacuated from the S-Bahn by rail staff. Since the Schwetzingen and Oftersheim stops can no longer be reached by train until the evening, the corresponding passengers were redirected. The S-Bahn line S9, which usually runs on this section of the route, will be significantly affected in the coming hours. According to a spokeswoman for the railway, travelers have to expect longer waiting times, since the train stations are only approached every hour, as bnn.de to report.
