Citizens' protest in Markgröningen: Medieval Park burst!

Markgröningen, Deutschland - In Markgröningen, a planned “medieval leisure park” project was finally stopped on Tuesday evening. In a fully occupied session, the local council spoke out with a clear majority against the plans of the investor Christoph Schlude, who wanted to realize an amusement park on around ten hectares. This decision was rewarded with loud applause by the more than 100 citizens present who feared an increase in traffic and noise, especially in the already heavily loaded urban area "Auf".

The investor had an interesting vision with a double -digit million amount in mind, which, however, met with bitter resistance from the critics. Of the 14 members of the AGD specialist advisory board, 12 spoke out against the support of the project. A central point of criticism was that the supposed benefits of the park, which would have been equipped without electronic rides, but with numerous attractions for families, is in no way in relation to the costs and stress for the city. Therefore, the application was therefore rejected to hold a citizens' information event first before the project is coordinated. This rejection also goes hand in hand with the concerns that the city could violate the requirements for the protection of historical ensembles, as was the case with other construction projects, as the reporting on AGD-Markroeningen.de underlines.

majority against the amusement park concept

The decision of the local council was surprising despite the already advanced planning and shows the significantly increased influence of the civil protests. The location for the amusement park was to be set up in the south of Markgröningen on the state road to the B10/Hochdorf. After several critical e-mails to the city administration and the municipal council, the citizens succeeded in making their voice heard, which turned out to be crucial for the veto. While the municipal council vehemently rejected the proposal, the concerns about the traffic load and the loss of the quality of life also came into focus.

The civil protest shows how important the protection of local interests is and proves that the citizens' initiative can have a great impact. Whether the amusement park in Markgröningen becomes a reality or not now seems to belong to the story, while the municipal council is entitled to new challenges that could result from this decision.

AGD-Markroeningen.de took part in the discussion and promoted transparency about the rejection of the project.
