Mannheim: Held receives price for brave civil courage against knife attack
A brave young man from Mannheim, Joel Dag, not only risked his own life through his civil courage, but also received an award for his heroic act. Two years ago, when he was just 18 years old, he intervened in a dangerous conflict that took place in front of a club in the city center. According to Tagesschau Joel seriously injured when he tried to protect a woman from two men who had brutally attacked. His brave intervention led to one of the attackers attacking him with a knife, which led to life -threatening injuries and made emergency operation necessary.
On Tuesday, November 5th, Joel Dag was awarded for his extraordinary civil courage with the price "Standing instead of standing around" of the Security Association in Mannheim e.V. (Sima). This honor is awarded to people who act beyond normal in critical situations. The award was presented by Mannheim's police officer Ulrike Schäfer and the security mayor Volker Proffen (CDU). Joel, who now lives in Paderborn and studies computer science, was recognized for his selfless commitment.
other heroes honored
But Joel Dag was not the only one who was honored that day. Three other brave citizens also received awards for their civil courage. Two joggers and a cyclist had helped a woman who was threatened by a man with scissors in the middle of the day. Together they pursued the attacker until the police were able to arrest him and took care of the victim, such as SWR reported.
police appeals to caution
The Mannheim police, represented by Michael Klump, emphasizes the importance of civil courage, but at the same time warns against putting yourself in danger. In situations that are difficult to assess, you should rather call the police and ask others for help. It is crucial to stay on site to help the injured and to be able to give off the perpetrator descriptions later. This information is particularly important to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Joel Dag's story is an impressive example of how civil courage can save lives. His brave commitment not only protected a woman's life, but also raised awareness of the importance of civil courage in society. It is a call to everyone, not to look away at critical moments, but actively act - but always with careful and caution.
