SWR Internal investigation: No AGG complaints against François-Xavier Roth found

Immediately after the allegations made to François-Xavier Roth became known, the Südwestrundfunk (SWR) has used an internal examination commission to investigate possible misconduct by Roth to the SWR orchestra employees. The investigation referred to the years 2011 to 2016 when Roth was chief conductor of the SWR Symphony Orchestra in Baden-Baden and Freiburg, as well as to the years 2020 and 2022, in which he perceived guest conductors at the SWR Symphony Orchestra.

The result of the investigation is that no complaints have been raised in the SWR in the SWR to date and that no employees of the station have felt disadvantaged or harassed due to Roth's behavior. Nevertheless, it is recommended to take preventive measures for future cooperation with Roth. The SWR is currently examining the implementation of these measures, which include a new division of roles in the orchestra structure, training courses on the general equilibrium law and the establishment of a confidant in the orchestra.

The SWR emphasizes that a safe work environment for the musicians has top priority and has agreed on regulations with Roth to exclude misconduct and protect the employees. If these regulations are violated, the SWR reserves the right to end the collaboration immediately.

The program director of culture, knowledge and young formats, Anke Mai, emphasizes that sexual assault, discrimination or abuse of power in the SWR has no place and are not tolerated. However, it also states that people earn a second chance if they admit incorrect behavior and result in consequences. Mai has confidence in François-Xavier Roth that he recognizes the values ​​of the SWR and can go the way together.

The orchestra board of the SWR Symphony Orchestra also supports the SWR's decision for working with François-Xavier Roth and emphasizes that the discussions have taken place in an open and honest way of dealing with each other.
