Bundling of AI competencies: universities rely on innovation in teaching

universities in Baden-Württemberg are increasingly relying on artificial intelligence in teaching

Over 150 representatives of all universities recently took part in an event on the subject of "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) at the Baden-Württemberg University (DHBW) in Stuttgart. The aim of this event to which the Ministry of Science had invited was to bring teachers together with interested parties with experiences in the mediation of AI competence and the use of AI tools who would like to integrate AI more into their apprenticeship in the future.

Science Minister Petra Olschowski emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence as a key technology for Baden-Württemberg. She emphasized that the country's universities and research institutions are pioneers in the areas of AI and digitization. It is therefore important not only to promote excellent research, but also to promote innovations in university teaching. This includes both the scientific-technical MINT area and the formation of teachers.

It was emphasized that the use of artificial intelligence in university teaching would go far beyond the use of specific programs. AI competence is arranged in many courses and a variety of AI tools could be used in teaching. At the same time, it is important to promote critical use of this technology.

The networking event at the DHBW Stuttgart presented successful applications from AI in university teaching. Particular attention was paid to the use of AI in scientific writing. In a program, 17 teaching concepts were presented and summarized by a team from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) to present them directly in the university. In addition, 16 ideas were discussed by university lecturers and checked for their transfer options.

The event "Ki in University Teaching" was part of the dialogue process "Future laboratory universities in the digital world" of the Ministry of Science, Research and Art. It clearly shows the increased interest and the willingness of the universities in Baden-Württemberg to integrate artificial intelligence into teaching and to develop innovative concepts. In the long term, this development could help to raise university teaching in the country to a new level and to prepare the students more specifically for the requirements of the digital future.
