Facilities from Baden-Württemberg become part of the AI-Matters networks
"The key technology of artificial intelligence (AI) will fundamentally change almost all industries. If we therefore take a courageous chances of AI, we can secure the future viability of the Baden-Württemberg production location," says Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economics, Labor and Tourism, on the occasion of the opening meeting of the European network "AI-Matters" in Palaiseau on January 24, 2023 south of Paris. A consortium from Baden-Württemberg, consisting of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation IPA Noopener "Target =" _ blank "href =" https://www.uni-stuttgart.de/ "Class =" link-external "> University Stuttgart and the Arena 2036 , has successfully established itself in one of the European Commission (EU) around 3.95 million euros. With 22 other institutions of applied research from eight European countries, the three Baden-Württemberg institutions are now forming the “AI-Matters” network. The EU provides a total of 30 million euros.
dr. In view of the success, Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut spoke of a strong signal for the AI location of Baden-Württemberg: "The integration of our facilities into this European network once again underlines the importance of Baden-Württemberg as a AI location in Europe: In Europe, we are part of the top level with artificial intelligence." The Ministry of Economics, Labor and Tourism had supported the application from the Baden-Württemberg facilities at an early stage and also agreed to provide the same amount so that the funding amount will be around 7.9 million euros.
Network "AI-Matters" will be available to European companies
The AI-Matters network will provide companies from all over Europe from 2024 at seven locations of test and experiment systems. The Fraunhofer IPA will coordinate the Baden-Württemberg partial consortium at the Stuttgart location. Head of Institute Professor Thomas Bauernhansl sees the winning of the German AI Matters location for the IPA and the two Stuttgart partner organizations as a strategically important success. "The strengthening of artificial intelligence, especially in the manufacturing trade, is crucial for future competitiveness. With the new test and experimental systems, we can significantly expand our offer for Baden-Württemberg industry in a key technology," says Thomas Bauernhansl.
From mid-2024, providers of AI-based components for the manufacturing business can test their services at the AI Matters locations in a realistic environment, evaluate them and, if necessary, have them certified. Small and medium -sized companies with production processes in particular should be able to experimentally test their specific use scenarios for AI. The Minister of Economic Affairs emphasized the importance of AI as a key technology for the future and promoted small and medium -sized companies from the manufacturing trade for the resulting range of tests. The funding phase lasts until the end of 2027. Afterwards, the permanent operation should be fully financed from customer income.
