Promotion of European Digital Innovation Hubs in Baden-Württemberg: Potentials for the innovation location
Baden-Württemberg receives funding for two European Digital Innovation Hubs
Baden-Württemberg won two funding for European Digital Innovation Hubs (EdiHS) in a Europe-wide competition. The European Union is planning to establish innovation centers for digitization, which are regional and at the same time networked across Europe. These should help particularly small and medium -sized companies as well as public institutions in digitization. From 17 consortia two go to Baden-Württemberg: The "Edih Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity" (EDIH AICS) under the consortial leader FZI Research Center from Karlsruhe and the "Edih Südwest" under the consortial leader Hahn-Schickard from Villingen-Schwenningen.
These funding mean a large award for the innovation location of Baden-Württemberg. "The fact that two EDIHs from Baden-Württemberg were successful in the Europe-wide competition confirms the quality of the two consortia and speaks for Baden-Württemberg as the country of innovations and the level of ideas," commented Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economics, Work and Tourism. Interior and digitization Minister Thomas Strobl emphasized the importance of the funding for the country's digitization strategy and noted that Baden-Württemberg should remain the innovation region of Europe in the 21st century and become a digital area region in Europe.
The Ministry of Economics, Labor and Tourism Baden-Württemberg and the Ministry of Interior, for digitization and municipalities Baden-Württemberg will promote the EDIH AICS with 774,984 euros by December 2025 and the EDIH Südwest by September 2025 with 775,000 euros.
The two EDIHs expand the Digital Hub network in Baden-Württemberg and offer an important thematic addition with a European reach. The cooperation and networking between the activities and initiatives in Baden-Württemberg and the EDIHs set up in the European network harbors great opportunities and development opportunities for the federal state. Small and medium -sized companies in particular should benefit from this Europe -wide network to transfer digitization innovations and skills.
The EDIHs offer various services, including consultations, workshops and training, feasibility studies, access to laboratories and test environments, development projects and support in the search for financing options or in observing markets and trends.
The EDIH AICS focuses on the topics of artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber security in the areas of production, mobility, energy, trade/services and public administration. The EDIH Südwest covers topics such as smart sensor systems with Edge AI and resilience, especially for the automotive industry, health, production and public administration.
The promotion of the two EDIHs from Baden-Württemberg will thus make a strong contribution to the further networking and further development of public administration in Europe. At the same time, it contributes to strengthening the Baden-Württemberg innovation location and promotes technological change and digital transformation in the region.
