Salary differences between professors at universities in Baden-Württemberg

A recently published study by the Ministry of Science reveals significant salary differences between professors at universities in Baden-Württemberg. The differences vary depending on the type of university and are on average between 52 and 523 euros per month. The biggest gap in engineering at universities is particularly striking, where male teachers earn an average of 900 euros more per month than their female colleagues.

The Minister of Science Petra Olschowski emphasized the importance of the results and asked the universities to identify the causes of these discrepancies and take measures to create fairer salary structures. She announced regular discussions with the university lines to pursue development. The transparency of this study should benefit both the universities and potential applicants.

The investigation included data from all 45 state universities and showed that the salary differences in Baden-Württemberg are lower compared to other federal states. Nevertheless, the differences are significant, especially in engineering and university medicine.

The results of this study are expected to drive the discussion about gender justice and remuneration at universities and lead to a fairer payment for all teachers in the long term.
