Girls discover digital career opportunities at the final event
The final event of the transfer program "Girls´ Digital Camps" on July 5, 2024 in Stuttgart was a great success, in which numerous students in grades five to eight received their final certificates. The program supports girls and young women in developing digital skills at an early stage and discovering IT applications and professions for themselves.
The Minister of Economics, Labor and Tourism, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, emphasized the importance of digital skills for the future and encouraged the participants to further develop their talents. Since the start of the program in January 2021, over 2,000 pupils across Baden-Württemberg have already participated, which illustrates the potential of female talents in the region.
The transfer program was extended to all twelve economic regions in Baden-Württemberg after a successful model phase. In addition to strengthening the interest of girls for digital topics and professions, the program also aims to close the digital gender GAP and break through gender -specific career choice patterns. The Girls´ Digital Camps offer the pupils age -appropriate topics that interest them and thus enable playful access to the digital world.
The final event in Stuttgart presented impressive projects that were created as part of the program, such as the design of individual biscuit stamps, the code of recipes as QR codes and the programming of a cake production road with LEGO robots. The handover of the certificate to the participants from various composite projects showed the diversity and creativity of the girls.
The funding program "Girls´ Digital Camps" is part of the state initiative "Women in MINT calls", which has set itself the goal of gaining more women for training and professions in the field of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. Through the targeted promotion of girls and young women in digital subject areas, the program helps to promote the talents and potential of the female population in Baden-Württemberg and actively help shape the future of the digital economy.
