Historical low in stolen outboard engines: Competence center Boat crime draws positive balance
The competence center Boat crime of the Water Protection Police Station Konstanz recently presented the annual statistics for 2023 and was able to record a historical low: only 531 cases of stolen outboard motors were registered nationwide. This means a decline of ten percent compared to the previous year and is a great success in the fight against boot crime.
Instate Secretary Thomas Blenke praised the successful measures taken in Baden-Württemberg to enable this development. Through structured searches, international collaborations, open investigations and preventive measures, the competence center was able to prevent Boot crime in the millions. Blenke particularly thanked the committed police officers, who have contributed significantly to this positive result with their expertise and willingness to work.
The numbers show that fighting boat crime in Baden-Württemberg is effective. The number of stolen sports boats climbed slightly, but remained at a low level overall. The total damage due to stolen sports boats and outboard engines in 2023 was around 5.05 million euros, a minor decline compared to the previous year.
The international cooperation of the Boat Crime Competence Center was also particularly successful. As part of the EU initiative "Empact", joint actions were carried out with other European countries to smash organized criminal networks. Successful missions in different countries led to ensuring stolen boats and outboard engines with a total value of almost 130,000 euros.
Overall, the annual statistics show that the professional work of the competence center bears boating crime in Constance fruits. Through targeted search measures and international cooperation, boot crime succeeds effectively and track down stolen boats and engines. The positive development confirms the success of the measures and the need for further cooperation in the fight against boot crime.
