New police boat for the Baden-Württemberg water protection police

The Baden-Württemberg water protection police recently received a new police boat that is considered one of the most modern and most powerful patrol boats in Germany. The boat is used for various tasks, including saving people in need, accident recording in boat accidents and the control of shipping traffic.

At the ceremonial handover of the new police boat on September 18, 2023 in Mannheim, the inner State Secretary Thomas Blenke said: "The specialists and specialists in our water protection police must be the best possible scaffolding for all situations. That is why we now provide you with one of the most modern and powerful patrol boats: for rescue people in need, to take an accident in the event of boat accidents and for the control of the Ship traffic ”.

After the official handover, Sigrid Blenke, the wife of the State Secretary, baptized the boat in the name "Police Stripboot 6" and wished him and his crew at all times good trip and a hand's width under the keel.

The new patrol boat is mainly used on the Rhine between Philippsburg and Mannheim as well as on the Neckar between Ladenburg and Mannheim to monitor shipping traffic. In the port area of ​​Mannheim in particular, the water protection police control waste transports, heavy goods traffic and the envelope of containers in the harbor, which is one of the largest inland ports in Europe.

The Baden-Württemberg water protection police belong to the police headquarters and monitors large parts of Lake Constance and approximately 700 river kilometers from the Rhine and Neckar. This makes an important contribution to security in Baden-Württemberg.

The new police boat, which is called "Police Strip boat 6", was purchased at a price of around 1.2 million euros. It is 17.50 meters long, 4.10 meters wide and is powered by two-pollutant CommonRail diesel engines of the latest generation with 560 hp each. These engines were installed for the first time in a police boat in Baden-Württemberg and drive the boat to a top speed of 27 knots, which corresponds to about 55 kilometers per hour. The boat was made of seawater resistant aluminum.

With the new police boat 6, the Baden-Württemberg police set new standards in technical equipment, both to land, water and in the air. The boat will help make the waterways in Baden-Württemberg even more secure, emphasized State Secretary Blenke.

The Baden-Württemberg water protection police is now well equipped to perform its diverse tasks in the field of security on Rhenish and Neckaric waters. The new police boat will make it possible to carry out rescue operations even more efficiently, to accept accidents quickly and to check shipping even more effectively.
