Bernd-Michael Sorg will be the new head of the management and operational staff of the police headquarters in Baden-Württemberg. He competes on July 1, 2023 and is also commissioned to the deputy management. Sorg takes over the post of Thomas Wild, who became the police chief at the Ludwigsburg police headquarters at the beginning of the year.
The police headquarters are an important part of the Baden-Württemberg security architecture and includes a wide range of activities. State Secretary Thomas Blenke emphasized the importance of a good and strong management for these tasks and expressed his joy about the appointment of Bernd-Michael Sorg. He praised Sorg's professional expertise and his humanity and is confident that he will fill out his new function excellently. The police vice president's order took place on July 31, 2023 in the Ministry of the Interior.
Bernd-Michael Sorg has extensive experience and qualifications in the police service. He completed the Baden-Württemberg management academy and already had significant management tasks with the Baden-Württemberg police. These include positions at the State Criminal Police Office in Baden-Württemberg, the management of special units of the police headquarters and in the Ministry of the Interior, where he most recently worked as a commissioner head of unit at the State Police Headquarters.
The selection of Bernd-Michael Sorg was carried out as part of a nationwide personnel selection procedure. The 53-year-old senior criminal director was appointed head of the management and operational staff and commissioned with the deputy management. He succeeds Thomas Wild, who became police chief at the Ludwigsburg police headquarters at the beginning of this year.
The police headquarters united the special forces and special units of the Baden-Württemberg police under one roof. These support the police headquarters and the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office regionally and nationally. Bernd-Michael Sorg was born on October 6, 1969 and joined the police enforcement service in 1992. In 1998 he was promoted to the upper police enforcement service, followed by a further increase to the higher police enforcement service in 2005. He worked at the Baden-Württemberg Interior Ministry in the prevention area and headed the State Criminal Police Office in Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, he worked in the Interior Ministry in the Factory Combination in special cases and in the project TAG police reform.
In 2014, Sorg was used for the management special units of the police headquarters. From 2019 he worked in the Ministry of the Interior and most recently acted as the provisional director of the counter -crime, prevention, criminology as well as European and international affairs.
