Bus funding program 2024: Baden-Württemberg relies on climate-friendly buses

The state of Baden-Württemberg continues to work for the electrification of bus traffic and started the 2024 bus funding program to advance the switch to climate-friendly drives. With a budget of 38.9 million euros, which is more than twice as high as in the previous year, a total of 207 line and citizen buses are to be subsidized. The focus is primarily on promoting emission -free and low -emission vehicles, with around 90 percent of the funds being used for battery electric buses.

The promotion of traditional diesel buses is treated, on the other hand, and is only possible if the newly procured vehicles serve to expand the timetable -related services or to replace older vehicles with poorer exhaust gas values. A total of almost 2.6 million euros are available for this. In addition, citizens' buses and bicycle trailers are also funded to support locally organized transport offers.

The objective of the bus funding program is clear: to accelerate the Transformation of the bus fleets away from diesel to climate -friendly drives and at the same time to strengthen local public transport, especially in rural regions. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann emphasizes the importance of the funding measures for climate protection and sustainable mobility and is satisfied with the increasing number of applications for funding.

The effects of funding on local public transport in Baden-Württemberg are diverse: the switch to climate-friendly drives not only spare the environment, but also increases the attractiveness of public transport. This could lead to relief for road traffic and an improvement in air quality in the regions in the long term. In addition, the funding measures could contribute to the fact that even smaller companies in rural areas benefit from developments in the field of sustainable mobility and thus improve the supply of public transport nationwide.
