Herd protection measures: Secure funding and test practical projects
Herd protection measures: Secure funding and test practical projects
Important measures to protect cattle from wolves in the southern Black Forest
In order to cope with the growing challenge of herd protection in front of wolves, the Baden-Württemberg Environment Ministry has developed special recommendations and funding for measures to protect cattle in cooperation with practitioners and the agricultural center for cattle farming. These include various herd protection measures that can now be financially supported with the help of funding.
A pilot project entitled "Companying implementation of herd protection measures on selected areas in southern Black Forest" was launched in order to test the effectiveness of these protective measures in practice. Supported by the Ministry of the Environment, the project is carried out by various partners such as the South Black Forest Nature Park and the Baden main association.
The importance of these measures is particularly evident in the altitudes of the southern Black Forest, where many cattle are kept. The return of the wolf poses major challenges and triggers uncertainty. The implementation of herd protection measures is therefore considered an important step to support the pasture holders.
By participating 15 pilot companies from all counties in the southern Black Forest Nature Park At the project, it is expected that comprehensive knowledge about the various herd protection measures is gained. These findings are intended to help develop and develop efficient protection concepts.
When visiting one of the participating pilot companies, Environment Minister Thekla Walker emphasized the importance of close cooperation and practical implementation of the protective measures. Efficient herd protection is crucial for a tolerable coexistence of pasture farming and wolf.
The pilot project has a term of four years and aims to evaluate, develop and implement efficient protection concepts for cattle husbandry. The results of the project are expected to provide important findings for herd protection in the southern Black Forest and make a contribution to the long -term safety of the cattle herds before wolf attacks.
