Organiconeing 2022: Annual report presented

organic food is more and more important in today's society. More and more consumers value healthy and sustainably produced foods. In order to strengthen the trust of consumers in organic food, eco-monitoring in Baden-Württemberg has been carrying out a unique examination program for ecologically produced food since 2002.

The Minister of Nutrition, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection, Peter Hauk, said when the Ökomonitoring report 2022 in Stuttgart, said organic food rights. The investigations by the chemical and veterinary investigation offices Baden-Württemberg (CVUAS) have once again shown that the quality of ecologically generated food is very good. Further research and measures were only required in individual cases.

An area that is particularly paid to is the presence of residues of pesticides. The EU Ecoo Ordinance prohibits the use of chemical-synthetic pesticides. The CVUA Stuttgart has examined over 400 eco products for pesticide residues as part of the eco-monitoring. Only eight samples were objected to due to increased residue content. This means that 98 percent of all samples examined rightly bear the eco-seal. The complaint ratio has been at a very low level for years.

also with regard to genetic engineering contaminants, good results were recorded. Genetic engineering is not allowed in organic food. The CVUA Freiburg examined organic honey, organic soy products and organic corn products for genetically modified organisms. Only 2.4 percent of the organic soy products showed traces of GVO contamination, while almost every fifth conventional soy product was significant. However, a clear downward trend has been observed here for 21 years.

The authenticity test of organic eggs also showed no abnormalities. All organic chicken eggs examined rightly wore the organic investigation. During the review of organic milk and organic milk products, however, a striking organic milk was found for the first time that did not come from Baden-Württemberg. Here the investigations of eco control have not yet been completed.

There were no problems with regard to environmental contaminants. The food examined contained no abnormalities regarding nitrate and heavy metal. Comparably low levels were found in both ecologically and conventionally generated products.

Minister Hauk emphasizes the importance of eco -monitoring for consumer confidence and the promotion of ecological farming. The test results show that where "organic" is on it, there is also "organic" in most cases. It is particularly gratifying that none of the objections that are complained about comes from Baden-Württemberg. The purchase of regional organic products contributes to the implementation of the goal of increasing the proportion of ecologically managed areas in Baden-Württemberg to 30 to 40 percent by 2030.

The number of agricultural organic farms in Baden-Württemberg has been increasing since the first EC Eco Ordinance came into force in 1992. The variety of these companies plays an important role in the supply of the population with regional and seasonal “organic” products. The regional campaign “Natur.. from home” supports these efforts.

The eco-monitoring makes a valuable contribution to the fact that consumers can rely on the quality of organic food. The results show that confidence in organic food is right and that they promote high-quality and sustainable food production.
