Optimistic forecast: Successful wine reading expected
Positive outlook for the winegrowers in Baden-Württemberg: The year 2023 have had high temperature and moisture fluctuations so far, which the wine vine did not cause any problems. The crop expectations are correspondingly positive. This was announced by the Minister of Nutrition, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection, Peter Hauk, at the autumn press conference of the Württemberg wine association.
In recent years, extreme weather fluctuations have increased due to climate change. This represents a serious risk for farmers and winemakers and endangers their earnings and income. The state of Baden-Württemberg therefore supports the companies in dealing with these challenges. Various support measures for preventive risk provision against the consequences of climate change for wine -growing companies are offered.
Although the year 2023 was shaped by temperature and moisture fluctuations, the vine was well caught. The warm temperatures at the beginning of vegetation have had a positive impact on the vine blossom. However, due to the frequent rainfall, the winegrowers have had to struggle with real mildew in the past few months. Nevertheless, the warm days before the wine harvest will have a positive effect on grape quality and must weights. Minister Hauk praised the excellent work of the winegrowers under difficult conditions.
In addition to climate change, increasing demands on species protection and biodiversity are a challenge for agriculture and viticulture. The biodiversity strengthening law, which the state government 2020 has introduced, also plays an important role here. Viticulture will also help to create high -quality food in an environmentally friendly manner. The country promotes and supports measures such as the use of mechanical weed regulatory procedures and the cultivation of mushroom -resistant grape varieties, the so -called PIWIS, to reduce the use of pesticides.
However, the wine industry in Baden-Württemberg also faces challenges such as increasing globalization, saturated markets and a falling per capita consumption of wine. Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine have also strengthened these challenges in recent years. In order to counteract this, investments are to be made in sales marketing for the wines at home and abroad. In addition, the offers in the area of wine tourism are further developed and expanded.
The biodiversity strengthening law has set important goals by 2030, including reducing the use of chemical-synthetic pesticides and the expansion of ecologically managed areas. To achieve this, operating measuring networks are set up and networks are set up by demonstration companies. Integrated crop protection is also being further developed to implement these goals.
Overall, viticulture in Baden-Württemberg is confident despite the challenges. The good crop expectations for 2023 and the efforts of the country to support the companies give hope that the wine industry will continue to be successful.
