Discovered dead sheep: bizarre find in Neubulach
In the municipality of Neubulach, a dead sheep was discovered on September 3, 2023. It is currently still unclear whether a wolf is responsible for the incident. The forestry and research institute (FVA) in Freiburg was informed about the incident and documented the site. For further examination, genetic samples were sent to the Senckenberg Center for Wildlife Genetics.
So far,has not been confirmed or excluded whether a wolf has killed the sheep. The municipality of Neubulach is located in the WOLFSPRÄVRAVENT Black Forest. Therefore, the farm animal associations and the region's wildlife officers are informed about the incident.
If further observations are suspected of a wolf, they should be reported to the FVA in Freiburg immediately. Interested parties can send an email to info@wildtierenmonitoring.de.
The wolf is an issue in Baden-Württemberg that is treated by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Management. Further information can be found on the website of the Ministry.
It remains to be seen which results the genetic examinations provide and whether the incident actually goes to the account of a wolf. If this is confirmed, suitable measures must be taken to avoid possible conflicts between humans and animals. It is important that the population is informed about the correct behavior in dealing with wolves and that livestockers are supported to protect their animals from possible attacks.
