An 81 Engelberg tunnel: running time display system
In spring 2020, the Stuttgart district administrator began setting up a driving time system system in the area of the Engelberg tunnel. This should ensure optimal information and traffic management during the major traffic interventions as part of the main construction work on the Engelberg tunnel. At a total of 14 solar-powered LED displays were installed at a total of nine locations of the A 8, A 81 and B 295 at a total of nine locations on one and both sides of the road. With the help of LED ads, road users are automatically informed about the expected travel times around the Engelberg tunnel. The travel time system is financed by the state as part of a pilot project for digitization of construction sites with around 900,000 euros. The state of Baden-Württemberg is an important part of the planned information and traffic management.
The driving time system automatically informs road users about the expected travel times on the motorway and the possible alternative routes in the subordinate road network for traffic disorders in the area of the Engelberg tunnel. When the alternative routes are overloaded, road users will be informed. This is intended to prevent traffic on the highway from using the alternative routes. The determination and display of the travel times is reliably using real -time data.
The system on the Engelberg tunnel has been successfully running in blind operation since autumn 2020. Just before the start of the second construction phase of the main construction work at the Engelberg tunnel in spring 2021, the system should now go into operation Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
From January 1, 2021, Autobahn GmbH takes on all tasks in connection with motorways in Germany-i.e. planning, construction, operation, maintenance, financing and asset management. The responsible branch southwest will continue to monitor the main construction work on the Engelberg tunnel and the driving time anti-system system with largely the same employees.
Current information on road construction sites in the state can be found on the website of the Baden-Württemberg road traffic center at www.verkehrinfo-bw.de . Traffic information BW is also available as an app (free and without advertising)-Information at: www.verkehrinfo-bw.de/verkehrsinfo_app . Under www.svz-bw.de Cars and federal roads installed webcams give an impression of the current traffic situation at any time.
background information:
With the main construction project, a comprehensive structural and operational modernization of the Engelberg tunnel will take place. In the course of the construction work, the inner shell of the tunnel is reinforced over a length of around 175 meters. As a result of the operating work, the entire security and operating technology is renewed over the entire length of both tunnel pipes at 2,520 meters. In addition, age -related damage in the tunnel is eliminated. The construction costs amount to around 130 million euros and are borne by the federal government as a building contractor.
