Mutated Coronavirus: First evidence of the South African variant B.1.351 in Baden-Württemberg

The mutated variant B.1.351 of the Coronavirus was first detected in a family that had entered Baden-Württemberg on December 13, 2020. This is the first known case in Germany. On December 18, 2020, the South African government reported on the creation and rapid increase in this new variant. It was found for the first time in a rehearsal of August 2020 at the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

A spokesman for the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Tuesday afternoon (January 12th) in Stuttgart: "The affected people returned from a long stay in South Africa to Baden-Württemberg in the Zollernalb district. After the entry, the family went into quarantine and was tested five days later. These tests were negatively developed in the following week. Symptoms of the disease (Charité Berlin) were sent to the National Consiliar Laborator (Charité Berlin). The local health department in the Zollernalb district is in close coordination with the State Health Office and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health.
