Heat warning for Baden-Württemberg: Minister of Health calls for caution
The German Weather Service (DWD) has published the first heat warning of the year for Baden-Württemberg. In view of the strong thermal load, which is expected on June 19 and 20 June 2023, Minister of Health Manne Lucha warns of possible health risks and calls the population to protective measures.
The increasing temperatures can lead to circulatory problems and physical discomfort at individual heat days, since the body has not yet got used to the high temperatures. According to Lucha, typical heat -related symptoms such as dizziness, headache, exhaustion, nausea and vomiting can occur. In some cases, extreme heat can even be life -threatening.
In order to protect themselves from the effects of the heat, the Ministry of Health gives the following recommendations:
- Avoid physical exertion during the midday heat and stay in cool interiors or in the shade.
- Find out more about air -conditioned rooms in your area, e.g. libraries.
- Ensure sufficient fluid intake through water, juice spritzer, soups or water -rich fruits. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
- ventilate rooms in the cooler morning and evening hours and darken them during the day.
- Wear light, bright cotton clothing, headgear and use sun protection.
- also note the needs of other people who cannot implement these measures independently.
The Ministry of Health also points out the dangers of ultraviolet radiation. UV light can have different effects on the organism, such as skin damage and the development of skin cancer. It is therefore recommended to stop in the shade and use sunscreen.
