Land supports the establishment of a leg prosthesis register

Baden-Württemberg takes the initiative and supports the establishment of a leg prosthesis register that is unique in Germany with around 900,000 euros. The funding is part of the “Digitization in Medicine and Care” strategy of the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

Around 55,000 amputations of the lower extremities are carried out annually in Germany. Much of the patients concerned needs long -term orthopedic care, often accompanied by physiotherapy treatment. For this reason, a register has been required for Germany for many years that systematically records these treatment data. This should gain valuable knowledge and improve the care of those affected.

"not first corona-pandemie must rely even more on data and networking in health care, ”says the Minister of Health Luca on May 12, 2022 in Stuttgart. "Ultimately, all patients benefit from it. It is very unfortunate that this possibility has not been used for people with leg amputation in Germany. We have already had very good experiences with so -called cancer registers, especially when it comes to documenting cancer. I am all the more pleased that we are now taking one step forward on this matter."

People with leg amputations usually need lifelong rehabilitation. Sophisticated digital and individual technology is therefore required for product development and adaptation of high -quality prostheses. Computer simulations are usually used in advance. The care data of other patients are used to end up creating an optimal product. In order to be able to access this data, a corresponding register is required.

The project

The project funded by the ministry "Building a medical register for the treatment and care of people with leg amputation" (AMP register) is Heidelberg University Hospital In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institut IPA completed. It builds on the project on "Amp-compass" on the occasion of Forum Health location Baden-Württemberg has already been financially supported. With the "AMP Compass", a digitally networked documentation tool was created, which enables everyone involved in the care process of leg amputations to enter the anamnesis of the affected and medical and orthopedic data. So -called smart prostheses are used, which transmit stress data to orthopedic technicians via mobile sensors.

The aim of the project is to further improve the exchange and cooperation between patients, acute care, rehabilitation facilities, resident doctors, therapists, orthopedic technicians and other service providers (cross -sectoral care). By collecting statistically high -quality longitudinal data that is collected over a longer period of time, successful and less successful treatment methods can be determined so that future patients can benefit from the experience.

on the occasion of this initiative in the state strategy digital@bw Embedded have now been with more than 19 million euros Funded. Above all, projects from the four topics of outpatient and inpatient care, cross -sectoral care, care and personalized medicine were funded.
