In 2020, the country originally provided a financial framework of around 600 million euros for the Corona financial aid of its four university clinics Freiburg, Heidelberg, Tübingen and Ulm. This measure is intended to ensure that investment measures required for a pandemic can be carried out and the solvency and the necessary hospital operation of the university maximum care are ensured during and after the pandemic. The country is thus fulfilling its financial responsibility as the provider of the university clinics.

So far, the university clinics have received investment grants of 77 million euros and a total of 100 million euros in operating costs for 2020. In February 2021 Minister Council has decided to largely maintain the financial framework granted for 2021 .

In addition, the state cabinet has decided to support the University Hospital Mannheim funded by the city of Mannheim in the first quarter of 2021 with 12.4 million euros.
