Baden-Württemberg is investing millions in the acquisition of moor areas that are important climate protection
The state of Baden-Württemberg acquired more than 113 hectares of natural and climate protection-important areas in 2023, of which around a third moor are. These areas were mainly financed from state funds and funds from the Nature Conservation Fund Foundation. The investment of a total of around 3.2 million euros serves as the basis for climate, nature conservation and biological diversity. The acquired areas offer rare types of valuable habitat and binding greenhouse gases.
The financing of these areas enables the country to decide on the management and to create the prerequisites for further developed use in the long term. Environment Minister Thekla Walker emphasized the importance of bogs for climate and nature conservation, as they bind greenhouse gases and offer habitat for rare species.
The acquired areas extend over various government districts such as Tübingen, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Freiburg. Especially in the Tübingen region, over 80 percent of the areas acquired could be secured as bogs. These measures correspond to the country's nature conservation strategy and help to secure the natural heritage and to further develop the areas in the sense of nature conservation.
for 2024, 2.75 million euros are intended for the purchase of areas for nature and climate protection in the current double budget. The grunder acquisition is intensified, since intact moore are considered effective carbon spaces and offer special habitats for a diverse flora and fauna.
agricultural usage forms at wet locations, such as the cultivation of pipe pistons or the pasture economy with water buffalo on re -cast bogs, can help to maintain the ecological diversity of the areas acquired.
Overall, the measures of the State of Baden-Württemberg show an exemplary initiative in the field of nature and climate protection and help to promote the biological diversity and the protection of the climate.
