New research construction of the Hahn-Schickard Institute promoted
With around 41 million euros, the Ministry of Economics, Work and Tourism promotes a new institute of the Hahn-Schickard instituts for microanalysis systems in Freiburg. Around 19 million euros of funds come from the European Fund for Regional Development (EFR) and around 22 million euros from the state budget. The total construction costs are calculated with a total of around 47.1 million euros. In the new building, the research activities of Hahn-Schickard at the Freiburg location, which are previously distributed over five buildings, are merged. The two-story office and laboratory building is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 with office space, laboratories, clean room and workshops.
"The new building is an important prerequisite for the further expansion of excellent business -related research in the country. With the promotion of this project, we make a contribution to strengthening the local healthcare industry and in particular the small and medium -sized companies working in this important industry," said Economic Minister Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut on Friday, June 2, 2023, in Stuttgart.
part of the innovation alliance Baden-Württemberg
The Hahn-Schickard Institute for Mikroanalysesysteme in Freiburg belongs to the Innovation Alliance Baden-Württemberg (Innbw) Microsystem technology with a focus on the healthcare industry. The institute's essential areas of work are Lab-on-A-Chip systems, microanalysis systems, bioanalytic test procedures as well as microfluidics and microdosing. The development of the institute, which was explained in 2016 from a Hahn-Schickard branch has been very dynamic since then. Average annual growth rates in the double -digit percentage range have brought the institute, some of which have been housed in the university rooms, to its spatial limits and inhibited the further development of the institute.
Current example is the successful participation in the Clusters4future initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The future cluster nanodia bw coordinated by Hahn-Schickard is one of seven winners with a funding commitment in the amount of 45 million euros for the next nine years. With the project, research results in the nanoporal technology of University of Freiburg are transferred to innovative products and services for personalized medicine.
intensify research activities
Minister Hoffmeister-Kraut said: "With the new building, we open up the opportunity to intensify its research activities in the traditional areas and to open up new research topics. The new building has been the largest individual investment of the country to an institute of InnBW since its existence.
With the new building, the institute will also have the necessary spatial requirements available to continue its successful output strategy. With his innovative strength, Hahn-Schickard Freiburg has contributed to the fact that around three hundred high-tech workstations could be created in the past ten years. Further outlets are currently being planned.
