The Ministry of Economic Affairs promotes the regiowine lighthouse project "Hydrogenium" in the Heilbronn-Franconia region with around 6.9 million euros from EU and state funds. It is intended to offer the possibility of trying out and developing industrial hydrogen technologies.

With the handover of a symbolic special check of around 6.9 million euros, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economics, Work and Tourism, gave the official starting signal for the regiowine lighthouse project "Hydrogenium". It is the eighth project from the Regiowin competition that is approved by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Crucial contribution to the establishment of the hydrogen economy in the country

"I am convinced that the test and application center Hydrogenium is important support for our small and medium-sized companies and for municipal companies in the extraction of hydrogen skills. It will make a decisive contribution to the establishment of the hydrogen economy in Baden-Württemberg," said Minister of Economic Affairs Hoffmeister-Kraut on the occasion of the handover to the project managers in Heilbronn. "The project will make a significant contribution to showing the potential of hydrogen for the mandatory transformation process of the economy. For the achievement of the climate goals and a climate -neutral economy required for this, green hydrogen will be the key raw material. To set impulses in key technologies of the future is more important today," says the minister.

As part of the project, a test and application center, called "hydrogenium", is to be created at the Lampoldshausen site. It is intended to offer the possibility of trying out and developing industrial hydrogen technologies. In addition, hydrogen skills are made available to interested companies, municipalities, scientific institutions and other organizations within the framework of advice and transfer services. The lighthouse project is divided into two sub-projects, which are carried out by the DLR Institute or Economic Development Railbronn GmbH. Other partners are the Fraunhofer Institute for Working Management and Organization (Fraunhofer IAO), the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences and the Technical University of Munich, Campus Heilbronn.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs promotes hydrogenium with a total of around 4.6 million euros from the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDRE) and additionally around 2.3 million euros from the state.

The hydrogenium was awarded one of 24 lighthouse projects nationwide as part of the state competition "Regiowin 2030 - regional competitiveness through innovation and sustainability". The competition is a central component of funding from the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDR) in Baden-Württemberg in the funding period 2021-2027.

In order to operate regional structural funding, Baden-Württemberg receives around 279 million euros from the European Union from the ERD in the 2021-2027 funding period. The Baden-Württemberg EFRE program 2021-2027 is aimed at the Baden-Württemberg innovation strategy and supports the focus on future technologies and skills as well as resource and climate protection.

Regiowin 2030 aims to improve competitiveness in the regions through innovation and sustainability and thus contribute to a future -proof regional development. Regions, counties and municipalities were asked to identify strengths and weaknesses of their respective competition region together with actors from business, science, science and administration and to convert it into a development strategy. Based on this strategy, so -called lighthouse projects were developed, which were awarded by the state government on April 14, 2021. This was a prerequisite for a full application.
