Faster expansion of the distribution networks
Faster expansion of the distribution networks
The expansion of the distribution networks recently focused on a network expansion summit, which was organized by the state government. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann emphasized the importance of the distribution networks for the success of the energy transition. Representatives of the power grid operators and the state government have agreed on the summit to accelerate the expansion of the distribution networks. In a joint explanation, it was emphasized that the network expansion is a task overall and that the conversion of the energy supply system will be stalled without a timely expansion of the power distribution networks. The signing are therefore committed to a forward -looking strengthening of the power distribution network infrastructure.
In his opening speech to energy companies,Prime Minister Kretschmann appealed to make the power grids fit for the future. The goal is to increase the benefits of wind and sun current from currently 5.4 gigawatts to over 30 gigawatts by 2030. In order for this electricity to reach consumers efficiently, an expansion of the distribution networks is required. In addition to an investment offensive of the operators, close coordination with the operators of wind and solar parks as well as the authorities is also necessary.
Environmental and energy minister Thekla Walker emphasized that the future of energy is regional and decentralized. Instead of on individual large power plants, there are many different local systems that ensure that there is added value on site. However, this places new requirements for the distribution networks. The Ministry of the Environment is currently moderating a dialogue between the regional council and network operators to speed up the planning approval process for electricity network expansion.
The cooperation between counties, cities, municipalities, state authorities, projectors as well as citizens and distribution network operators is crucial for faster integration of renewable energies and an acceleration of the network expansion. In this context, the new state energy agency "Renewable BW" should support municipalities, network operators and projectors.
The network expansion summit has therefore taken an important first step for necessary investments in distribution networks. The state government, representatives of the power grid operators and other actors have recognized that the network expansion is a central prerequisite for the success of the energy transition. By expanding the distribution networks, the desired goals for renewable energies can be achieved and regional added value increases. It remains to be seen how the measures to strengthen the power distribution network infrastructure in Baden-Württemberg will develop and whether other federal states take similar initiatives to promote network expansion.
