Start-up BW Local in the final of the European Business Promotion Awards 2020

The state competition "Start-up BW Local-founding-friendly community" is in the final of the European Business Promotion Awards 2020 in the "Improvement of the Business environment". “Start-up BW Local” supports municipalities, cities and districts in the conceptual creation of start-up-friendly structures on site.

The state competition is in the final of the European Business Promotion Awards 2020 (EEPA) . After winning the German preliminary decision in May, the competition has now made it to the shortlist of the international jury. Economic Minister Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut said: "I am pleased that our competition has prevailed and the jury has convinced. With the entry into the final of the European Company Promotion Awards, we can make our founding location even more visible. Today, start-up financing is more important than ever. Innovative and new business models can continue to make our economy competitive." Local ”supports the state of municipalities, cities and districts in creating concepts for optimal support for founders on site and draws the most convincing implementations.

This year 49 projects from 185 applications for preliminary rounds were selected in 27 countries and took part in the European Races of the EEPA. In mid-September, the international jury set up a selection list of the 19 European finalists for the competition-successfully for Baden-Württemberg. In November, "Start-up BW Local" competes against projects from Finland and Spain in the "Improvement of the Business environment" competition category.

also the second German preliminary winning project "Greentech.Ruhr" was selected for the shortlist and therefore has a good chance of winning a prize in the category "Promotion of the development of green markets and resource efficiency". The winners of the final will be announced on November 16 at the SME meeting of the European Commission.

"Start-up BW Local" supports municipalities, cities and districts in the conceptual creation of start-up-friendly structures on site. The founders then evaluate the concepts and give the most convincing participants the “Start-up-friendly community” label. Since the beginning of the format, in addition to a community of start-up supporters, unbureaucratic structures have emerged from which founders benefit.

The competition is jointly sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg umbrella organizations, the municipal day, the city council, the district council, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BWIHK) and the Baden-Württemberg crafts.
