Iggingen increases water and wastewater costs: citizens have to pay more!

Iggingen, Deutschland - In Iggingen, the municipal council members decided to recalculate water and wastewater costs, which results in a significant increase in fees for citizens. In the future, residents will have to pay 4.00 euros per cubic meter for dirty water and 1.15 euros per square meter for rainwater. These adjustments have become necessary because extensive investments, such as the connection to the collective claim in Schwäbisch Gmünd and the general renovation of the association's sewage treatment plant in Horn, are due. In addition, the requirements in the sewage area increase steadily, which causes additional costs. The new tariffs apply for four years and could lead to stabilization or even reduction in fees in the future, provided surpluses arise, as Kämmerer Schürle explained. According to the [Remszeitung] (https://www.remszeitung.de/lokales/ostalbkreis/iggingen/gebuehnerhung-in-iggingen-hoehere- and-abwasser costs-24zJc2gng6jljcpyao5t7jty.html) in particular a sample with 120 cubic meters of fresh water consumption, which thus experiences an additional load of around 200 euros annually.

The water fees in comparison

The water fees have also been calculated, but increases moderately to 2.50 euros per cubic meter, compared to the upper limit of 2.85 euros. This decision was made in order not to burden the citizens excessively, which is important for the acceptance of the increases. Mayor Tobias Feldmeyer noted that Iggingen positions itself in the upper third of the Ostalb district, while the average in the region is 2.79 euros per cubic meter for water.

In the context of wastewater fees in Germany, a comparison with Nuremberg shows that the fees for dirty water are 2.42 euros per cubic meter, while rainwater is calculated at 0.60 euros per square meter. This illustrates the difference landscapes in German cities and municipalities and the need for a transparent fee structure. In Nuremberg, the wastewater fees have been kept stable since 2000, despite the Eastern fee adjustments in the past due to necessary investments in wastewater treatment. The current increase in Nuremberg drives the wastewater fee from EUR 1.67 to EUR 2.42 and the rainwater fee of EUR 0.43 to EUR 0.60 annually.
