AfD parliamentary group spokesman Bamberger criticizes digital backwardness in Baden-Württemberg
In a current state parliament debate, the science spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group, Alfred Bamberger, expressed sharp criticism of the digital transformation in the context of the second IT state contract in Baden-Württemberg. He complained that the state falls behind Hamburg in the areas of digital services and that the citizens and companies have to suffer from inefficient bureaucratic processes. According to Bamberger, the existing system is a cumbersome bureaucratic hurdle that hemme progress.
The arguments of Bamberger are not unfounded. For years, Baden-Württemberg has been in comparable digital administration and for e-government services in rear places. A report by the digital association Bitkom from 2023 confirmed that only 52 percent of administrative services are digitized. This is particularly problematic in a federal state known for its highly developed industry. The need for efficient and accessible digital infrastructure for companies, especially for start-ups and SMEs, is becoming more and more urgent.
Baden-Württemberg, as the second largest state in Germany, rely on its economy, which depends considerably on a modern administration. Numerous companies have already signaled that they suffer from the current bureaucratic hurdles and that digitization of administrative processes is crucial for competitiveness. Delays from paper -based processes can lead to a competitive disadvantage, especially in times when agile structures are required.
The criticism of Bamberger's digitization policy not only aims at bureaucracy, but also on the priorities of the state government. Critics argue that other countries such as Hamburg should also serve as role models to create future -oriented administration. Historically, Baden-Württemberg was known for innovations for a long time, but the changing requirements for digital administration put this call under pressure. In 2018, the state government introduced a program to advance digital administration, but the success has so far been behind the expectations.

The digital transformation in Baden-Württemberg remains a major challenge that affects both the administration and the citizens. Alfred Bamberger appeals to the reality of many people who can find themselves in an often opaque bureaucracy system. The need for a fundamental change is undisputed, and it remains to be hoped that the initiated discussion in the state parliament will actually lead to progress in digital administration.
