Insight into the world of faith: students attend the mosque and church in Ravensburg

Ravensburg, Deutschland - On November 28, 2024, the religious educators of the Bad Waldsee high school with their 8th graders visited the Mevlana mosque in Ravensburg. In two groups, the students were not only able to take part in the Muslims' midday prayer, but also ask questions and have discussions. In the second part of the day we went to the Catholic Youth Church of St. Jodok, where the young people explored the church room and received new impulses from youth pastoral care. This educational day set important signs of interreligious dialogue, at a time when understanding and respect between the faith communities are of great importance. Thanks to the religious colleagues and the support of the communities that open these doors, the students were given valuable impressions. This initiative is particularly important to deepen the knowledge of different beliefs and to reduce barriers, such as [Schwäbische Zeitung] (https://www.schwaebische.de/regional/oberschwaben/klassenstufe-8-bie- and-kirchenbesuch-in-ravensburg-3138737) reported.

connection in difficult times

In the meantime, the bishops Christian Stäblein and Heiner Koch, from the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg and the Archdiocese of Berlin, emphasized their solidarity with the Muslims in Germany for the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan. In a greeting, they commemorated those affected by the conflict in the Middle East, especially after the events of October 7, 2023, and underlined the emotional connection of many Berliners to this region. "We take part in their pain and grief," said the bishops, which highlighted the common desire for peace against the peacelessness of our time. The connection between Muslims and Christians, in particular through the upcoming fasting, offers a valuable opportunity to pray together and to stop in the inner contemplation. They encouraged people to accept invitations to break the fasting and to experience the hospitality of Muslim communities, as reported.
