Bolds against curls: benefit derby for the New Year's celebration in Fellbach!
On New Year's Day, January 1, 2025, the charity derby "balden against Locke" takes place in Fellbach. The event starts at 3:30 p.m. on the artificial ice rink in front of the Schwabenlandhalle on Guntram-Palm-Platz. The event has developed into a tradition since its start in 2002 and attracts hundreds of viewers every year.
In the game, two teams compete against each other with modified ice hockey rules. Instead of a puck, a children's ball and brooms are used. Three thirds of 15 minutes each are planned, and in the case of a draw, a decision is made by five penalts per team. Despite their disorganization, the players are friendly.
charitable purpose and earlier successes
The main goal of the benefit derby is the collection of donations for good purposes in Fellbach and the surrounding area. An impressive sum of over 215,000 euros has been collected since 2002. The receivers of the donations this year include "Clowns with heart", the support association for the Haus am Kappelberg retirement home, a handball club in Weinböhla, which suffers from flood damage, the association "We for Children" and the Christmas campaign "6666" of the Fellbacher Zeitung.
Back to the roots of the event: The 16th Besenishockey duel already took place in 2017, and the "baldness" prevailed 5: 4 after extra time against the "curls". After a regular season it was 4: 4, the decisive goal was extended by Marc Belser. The proceeds of the game were 14,500 euros at the time, half of the Christiane-Eichenhofer Foundation, which supports children with cancer, and the 6666 campaign, which helps fellow citizens in need. More than 800 spectators were present on the ice rink in front of the Lutherkirche on this day.
The event is not only shaped by the exciting games, but also by the good atmosphere that DJ Scheefuss spread. The curls won 5: 1 in a previous youth game between the "Löckle" and "Glätzle". Lisa Schneider, who played for the baldness for the first time, was able to perform well despite the absence of her sick friend Jacques Kurrle. Joachim Kurrle expressed the wish that Lisa Schneider should start again next year.
The balance sheet after 16 encounters speaks for itself: 10 victories for the curls, 5 for the baldness and a draw in 2002.
