Clinics in the Ostalbkreis: Millions of losses and large investments planned!
Aalen, Deutschland - The Ostalb clinics face a financial challenge that affects the entire region. In 2024, a loss of around 63 million euros is expected, which presents district policy for massive problems. Christoph Rieß, the CEO of the clinics, presented the plans for consolidation in the district council and emphasizes that the loss should be reduced to around 60 million euros by the end of 2025. This is a step in the right direction, but the challenges are enormous.
The financial difficulties of the clinics should not be underestimated. Rieß expects the Ostalb Clinic with a deficit of 23.1 million euros, while the Staufer Clinic and the Virngrund-Klinik expect losses of 19.75 million and 17.32 million euros. Despite these dark prospects, there are also bright spots: profits from Wachkoma Bopfingen and the Medical Service Center at the Ostalb Clinic could bring in a total of 205,000 euros, such as The Schwäbische Post reported.
investments and savings in the focus
In order to get the financial problems under control, comprehensive investments are necessary. Around 14.65 million euros are scheduled for 2025, including 5.5 million euros for the surgical area in Aalen and 3.5 million euros for the construction of the regional supplier in Essingen. Rieß explains that the savings cannot move forward faster, since many medical services are still necessary at different locations. In addition, tariff increases and increasing social security contributions could further burden the situation.
The planned relocation of medical services is a central part of the strategy. In early 2025, visceral surgery is to be moved from Ellwangen to Aalen/Mutlangen. Inpatient trauma surgery will also move at the end of 2025. These measures are part of a comprehensive restructuring concept that aims to increase the efficiency of the clinics and reduce financial losses.
long -term perspectives and challenges
The forecasts for the coming years show a slow but constant improvement. Rieß expects the deficit to drop to 43.1 million euros by 2028. Digitization and operational improvements should bring initial savings, while sunken energy prices could also contribute to relief. Nevertheless, the uncertainty remains great, and the clinics still have to react flexibly to unforeseen developments.
The Ostalb clinics are faced with a critical phase in which both investments and savings are necessary to maintain medical care in the region. The challenges are immensely, but with a clear plan and the support of politics it could be possible to cope with the financial problems, such as "https://agicap.com/de/artikel/defizit/" Rel = "NOFOLLOW NORFERER NOOPENER" TARGET = "_ Blank"> Agicap explained.
