Small monuments in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis: Hiking exhibition starts in Walldorf!
Walldorf, Deutschland - An exciting hiking exhibition about the fascinating small monuments in the Rhein-Neckar district is now in full swing! From January 14 to February 11, 2024, interested parties can marvel at unique exhibits in the town hall of Walldorf, which were put together by the committed local friends and the city of Walldorf. The official opening will take place on January 15th at 6:30 p.m., which will be present, among others, Matthias Renschler, such as wiwa-lokal.de reported.
journey of discovery through history
The hiking exhibition shows the diversity and the stories of the approximately 1200 small monuments on ten roll-up plates, which were recorded by around 111 volunteers throughout the Rhein-Neckar district. These exciting objects range from image sticks, plaques to old ways, the importance of which is often forgotten. In Walldorf, visitors can admire a sandstone table on the Catholic rectory from 1734 and a cross at the cemetery from 1757. Such artifacts are not only part of the cultural heritage, but also susceptible to damage, which is why the project is of great importance to recording these monuments.
The exhibition in Sinsheim, which was opened on January 8, 2024, also attracts a lot of attention. Here first mayor, Peter Hesch, addressed his words of welcome to the approximately 60 visitors who were interested in the stories of the small monuments. The project, which has been running since 2022, is now looking for other volunteers to document the cultural heritage in other communities such as Ketsch, Leimen and Weinheim. The shop windows of the story can not only be visited in Walldorf, but also hike through the region, with the next stations in Schriesheim and beyond, such as sinsheim-lokal.de
