Controversial bus conversion in Tuttlingen: Safety for school children at risk!
In Tuttlingen, important changes are imminent at the bus stops that have the goal of improving access to all citizens. At the moment it is already possible at some stops without being able to get on the bus without height differences. But the planned renovation of ten other stops is delayed. This is due to the fact that Mayor Michael Beck has taken off an important item on the agenda that should be discussed in the technical committee for the time being.
The planning of the renovation was commissioned by the city, and a planning office from Sigmaringen was therefore entrusted. However, the current discussions show that various committee members have expressed concerns about the construction plans. In particular, the stops at the train station in Möhringen have already been discussed intensively, whereby the locations and the need for two stops were in the foreground.
Safety concerns about the conversion
A central point of the debate is that the new stops on Brückenstrasse would protrude about two meters into the road. This could lead to the traffic that traffic can only flow at this point, which may lead to dangerous situations. Several councils, including Ulrike Martin from the LBU and Fabia Koloczek from the CDU, expressed concern about the resulting tightness and the possible confusion, especially with regard to the safety of the students at the nearby Schildrain School.
The day before the agenda item was suspended, the local council of Möhringen had already discussed the plausibility of the improvised plans for the stops at the train station. Considerations were made whether only one of the two stops would be required and whether the location on a green area is really advantageous.
In view of these concerns, the city administration has decided to revise the plans again. According to city spokesman Arno Specht, advice is now being discussed internally and the aim is to evaluate the critical points with experts again. The establishment of a traffic commission is also planned, an idea that goes back to the request of some municipal councils. This commission could serve to check complex traffic situations before final decisions are made.
Financial aspects of the conversion
Overall, the renovation, which affects the stops at Möhringen station and at the Elias-Schrenk-Haus, also costs other stops in Tuttlingen (including district office, round Eck, Daimlerstraße, Bürgerheim and Scala), around 637,000 euros. There are about 535,000 euros on the pure construction work, the remaining 101,600 euros are planned for the planning. However, the city of Tuttlingen hopes to receive support from funding and has submitted an application that could possibly bring in 256,000 euros in grants.
With these conversions, the city of Tuttlingen pursues the goal of further developing the infrastructure and increasing accessibility for its citizens, which is an important step towards a more inclusive society. However, the current delays and concerns show that comprehensive and detailed planning is essential to ensure the security and satisfaction of all road users.
