Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences celebrates its 30th anniversary

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) University of Applied Sciences looks back on an impressive 30-year history. What started in 1995 with just 60 students in provisional premises has become a respected institution today that offers around 9,000 young people in around 40 courses. The anniversary was duly celebrated in the Audimax in Sankt Augustin with around 350 guests.

In her speech, University President Marion Halfmann emphasized the development of the university into a research -strong educational institution, equipped with modern infrastructure and a diverse range of courses. It underlined the importance of change and adaptability in order to meet the challenges of demographic change and the changing requirements of the labor market.

The past few years have not been without challenges. Halfmann recalled the devastating flood in 2021, which severely damaged the campus in Rheinbach. Despite the enormous damage that is estimated at over 62 million euros, quick measures could be taken to maintain education. The majority of the renovation work has now been completed, which shows how well the community of the university is working together.

The university is not only known for its academic excellence, but also for the high level of satisfaction of its graduates. The H-BRS has awarded a current study as the university with the highest study satisfaction in North Rhine-Westphalia. This can be seen in the feedback from the students, who appreciate the close support from the professors and practical training.

The H-BRS is also active in research and has set special focus in the areas of security, sustainability and digitization. Innovative projects, including a robot that supports people with autism, and the interdisciplinary research project "Cytotransport", demonstrate international recognition and influence of the university in research.

Overall, the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences shows how important adaptability and innovative strength are in today's educational landscape. With a strong community and a clear vision, the H-BRS is well positioned to play a key role in education and research in NRW and beyond the coming years.
