Erwöte traffic volume at the Bad Honnef/Linz junction, Rottbitzer Straße in Bad Honnef

The Bad Honnef/Linz junction experiences an increased traffic volume due to construction work on the A3. From April 22, 2023 to June 16, 2023, the Siebengebirge departure in the direction of Cologne is closed. This block requires a redirection, which is cited by the "U13" requirements. This detour is signposted with blue tables and leads via state roads to the Siebengebirge junction.

The current construction work is part of the fundamental renewal of the A3 between the Cologne-Heumar and Bad Honnef motorway triangle, which has been carried out in five construction phases since 2019. This renewal is intended to optimize the lanes, bridges and the entire road equipment in order to better withstand the current traffic loads. Noise protection walls are renewed and bridges are repaired or rebuilt. Overall, these measures should increase security and driving comfort on this important traffic route.

The route between the Bonn/Siegburg motorway junction and the Siebengebirge junction will be affected by the construction work in the fourth phase of construction. These comprehensive renovation work that begins in the south part extends over more than eleven kilometers. In order not to further influence traffic during this phase, the traffic on the A3 in the direction of Cologne is led to two out of three traces.

The Autobahn GmbH of the federal government, which is responsible for these measures, has created a central organization for planning, building and maintaining the federal highways since its start in 2021. The Rhineland branch, which is responsible for the area around Bad Honnef, manages around 1,200 kilometers of motorway, including the necessary traffic infrastructure, in order to be able to react efficiently even if the traffic is increased.

The increasing volume of traffic in the region, due to close metropolitan areas, requires continuous adjustments and modernizations of traffic routes. The efforts to have extensive renewal are therefore not only necessary from a structural perspective, but also to improve the quality of life of the residents through less traffic noise and better traffic safety.
