ADFC demands: cycle paths in NRW - from words to deeds!

Once a year, Düsseldorf is bicycle-friendly: On the ADFC star trip, 3000 cyclists conquer even the Rheinufer tunnel-Dorf-Aktuell

The ADFC star trip in Düsseldorf attracted numerous bike enthusiasts from all over North Rhine-Westphalia on May 4th. Around 3000 participants followed the motto "Don't talk - do it!" And demonstrated for an improved cycling infrastructure in the city. The ADFC has long criticized the insufficient implementation of cycle path plans and demands more commitment from politics, especially with regard to the upcoming local elections.

The new ADFC chairman Daniela Günther appealed to the political decision-makers to finally implement existing plans to improve cycle paths. It was supported by Susanne Niemann, chair of the ADFC NRW, the emphasized that the number of cyclists increased, while the measures to improve security and infrastructure remain behind expectations. The requirements outline the need for a clear political commitment for safe bike paths.

Vera Konrad from the newly founded "Junge ADFC" represented the position that many of the existing measures for cyclists are inadequate. She made three central demands: immediate measures to improve security in dangerous areas, acceleration of the cycle path construction and a fairer distribution of public space in favor of cyclists. These demands were very popular among those present.

After the rally, the cyclists set in motion and crossed Düsseldorf, including the Rheinufer tunnel, which was open to bicycles for a few minutes. The police ensured that the demonstration could take place undisturbed.
